The number of flights which were made over Iran's sky rose by 8.2 per cent in the first eight months of the current Iranian calendar year that started on March 21, compared to the same period last year, IRIB quoted managing director of Iran's State Airports Company Mahmoud Rasoulinejad as saying on December 1.

Totally, 114,661 flights were made in the mentioned period, he added.

However, 110,516 domestic flights were made, showing a 2 per cent fall year on year, he noted.

The Iranian Deputy Transport Minister Ali-Mohammad Nourian said Iran plans to supply fuel to foreign airlines at 10 cents [per liter] cheaper than the regional countries in a bid to attract more international flights.

He added that jet fuel is ordinarily supplied at 9 cents higher than the Persian Gulf FOB rate. We supply foreign airlines with fuel 10 cents below the average price which is supplied by the regional countries in a bid to attract more international flights, he explained.

The Civil Aviation Organization of Iran has announced that it will liberalize ticket prices to encourage domestic airlines to improve services.

In September, Civil Aviation Organization's former head Hamidreza Pahlavani said that the decision will take effect by the next four months.

A number of planes will be added to the national fleet in the current year, he said, adding that 19 planes were added to the fleet last year.
