Hungary and Azerbaijan will extend the agreement on air travel, which expires on April 7, Hungarian State Secretary for External Economic Relations and Foreign Affairs Peter Szijjártó said at the fourth meeting of the intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation between the two countries in Baku today.

Szijjártó is a co-chairman of the commission. Minister of Economy and Industry Shahin Mustafayev is a co-chairman from the Azerbaijani side.

The Hungarian side has already sent the initial draft of the updated agreement to the Azerbaijani side. It will be signed before April 7. The current agreement has shown its effectiveness. The number of visas issued by Hungary to Azerbaijani citizens increased sixfold in 2013.

Moreover, the Hungarian party intends to facilitate the issuance of visas to Azerbaijani citizens and to begin outsourcing work on processing visa applications and the issuance of documents.

It was stressed at the meeting that some 14,000 Azerbaijani tourists (forecast for 2014 is 26,000 tourists) used the Baku- Budapest flight, launched in June 2013 and operated by Hungarian Wizz Air.
