Around 222 million metric tons of cargo were transported by Azerbaijan's transport sector in 2014, which is 1.9 percent more than in 2013, the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee's report on the results of 2014 said.
The volume of non-oil cargo transportation increased by 3.4 percent in 2014 and hit 159 million metric tons, according to the committee.
Around 76.4 percent of the total volume of cargo transported in 2014 accounted for the private sector.
Some 58 percent of the total volume of cargo was transported by vehicles, 27.7 percent by pipelines, 9.8 percent by trains and 4.5 percent by ships.
Around 1.8 billion people were transported by passenger vehicles in 2014, which is 4.7 percent more than in 2013. Most passengers were transported by vehicles (88 percent) and metro (11.8 percent).
Some 21.8 million metric tons of cargo were transported by railway in 2014 compared to 23.2 million metric tons in 2013.
Some 9.9 million metric tons of cargo were transported by ships in 2014 compared to 11.5 million metric tons in 2013. The entire volume of transported cargo fell to international operations. The volume of cargo handled at Azerbaijani ports in 2014 amounted to 12 million metric tons.
Some 128.6 million metric tons of cargo were transported by vehicles, which is 2.7 percent more than in 2013.
The volume of passenger transportation stood at 1.6 billion people (4.8 percent growth compared to 2013). Some 96.23 percent of passengers were transported by buses and 3.7 percent - by cars.
Some 215.5 million people were transported by the subway, which is 4.3 percent more compared to 2013.
Some 1.8 million passengers were transported by planes, which is 7.6 percent more than in 2013. Around 0.4 percent of transportation by this type of transport fell to the private sector.
