Uzbekistan’s insurance companies increase investments by almost 19% in 2014

The total volume of investments made by Uzbekistan's insurers in 2014 stood at 624.4 billion UZS, or 18.6 percent higher than in 2013, a representative of Uzbekistan's Ministry of Finance told Trend Jan. 29.

The bulk of investments, i.e. 87.1 percent, are the bank deposits and securities.

The volume of deposits rose by 23.7 percent up to 294.3 billion UZS, and investments in securities increased by 6.6 percent up to 249.5 billion UZS.

The investments made in participation in the statutory fund of enterprises rose by 65.2 percent up to 43.5 billion UZS, in real estate - by 51.1 percent to 29 billion UZS, and the loans issued by insurers - by 39.9 percent to 6.9 billion UZS.
In 2013, the total investments of Uzbek insurers rose by 20.4 percent up to 526.7 billion UZS.

The insurance market of Uzbekistan had in 2014 some 31 companies, including three life insurance companies and 28 companies operating in general insurance.

Last year, the insurers in Uzbekistan increased the collection of insurance premiums by 29 percent up to 436.1 billion UZS as compared with 2013, and the aggregate payments of the insurance companies rose by 8.1 percent to 72.4 billion UZS.

The official exchange rate as of Jan. 29 is 2436.16 UZS/USD.
