The Turkish company "Engin Group Consorcium S.A." is constructing a seed cotton processing plant in Turkmenistan with the annual capacity of 40,000 metric tons, the newspaper Neutral Turkmenistan said April1.

The plant is being built in the Sakarcage district of the Mary region of the country, a region where cotton is traditionally grown.

The customer is the state concern Turkmenpagta (Turkmencotton). It is planned to commission the plant in the coming months.

"Engin Group" built a similar plant in the Kunyaurgench district of Dashoguz province last year, which processes 40,000 metric tons of cotton a year and produces about 15,000 metric tons of selected seeds.

Cotton occupies an important place in the export of Turkmenistan and is in demand as raw material for tens of modern enterprises of the dynamically developing textile industry of the country.

The Turkmen capital annually hosts international trade fair of cotton products of Turkmenistan.

In October 2014, it was reported that the country has harvested more than 1 million 50,000 metric tons of the "white gold". The total area of land allocated to cotton is more than 500,000 hectares.
