Uzbekistan and China signed a protocol on the expansion of trade and economic cooperation within the framework of the creation of "Silk Road Economic Belt", the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations, Investments and Trade of Uzbekistan told Trend June 18.

The document was signed during the third meeting of the China-Uzbekistan Intergovernmental Cooperation Committee, which took place June 15 in China.

The protocol was signed by the head of the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations, Investments and Trade of Uzbekistan Elyor Ganiev and Chinese Deputy Minister of Commerce Zhong Shan.

Uzbekistan and China will fully apply the existing mechanism of bilateral trade and economic cooperation, as well as deepen and expand mutually beneficial cooperation in trade, investment, financial, transport and other spheres within the framework of co-creation of the "Silk Road Economic Belt", according to the protocol.

The project envisages expansion of trade in basic goods, infrastructure construction projects, reconstruction of industrial sites and creation of industrial parks.

China is one of the largest trade partners of Uzbekistan with the volume of bilateral trade in the amount of $4.7 billion on the results of 2014.

Dozens of projects of strategic and economic importance have been implemented in Uzbekistan in cooperation with Chinese companies. They include construction of four lines of the Central Asia-China pipeline, Dehkanabad potash fertilizer plant, Kungrad soda plant, creation of a modern network of digital communications, construction and upgrading of dozens of enterprises for the production of road-building equipment, mobile phones, production of building and finishing materials, leather products.
