Tehran, Moscow increasing direct flights as trade flourishes

Tehran, Iran, February 16

By Mehdi Sepahvand - Trend:

Tehran and Moscow are increasing the frequency of their direct flights following a rise in Iran-Russia trade relations, Vadim Kiryukhin, deputy director of incoming department at the Russian office of TUI Group said.

TUI Group is a multinational travel and tourism company headquartered in Hannover, Germany.

"Iran's Mahan Air has launched two regular flights [per week] which will grow to three in mid-May. Also Iran Air has launched two regular flights to Russia. Russia's Aeroflot is also launching seven regular flights," he told Trend February 16 on the sidelines of the Tehran International Tourism Exhibition.

Kiryukhin who was accompanying the Russian Federal Agency of Tourism in Tehran, noted that last year the number of Iranians visiting Russia increased by 111 percent compared to two years ago.

So, business is improving between Iran and Russia and there will be more visits, he concluded.

Iranian businessmen have been seeking a greater place in the Russian market after recent political disputes between Russia and Turkey, which ended in Russian restriction on imports from Turkey.

Iranian businessmen's efforts have found special emphasis since the removal of economic sanctions on Iran.

Before it plunged to $2 billion due to sanctions, the Iran-Russia trade turnover was $4 billion in 2013.
