The French car making company Renault's sales in Iran have grown by 255 percent in Iran year on year.

Some 3,550 Renault-made cars were sold in the Iranian market in the one year ending in April, Tasnim news agency reported May 20.

This number stood at 1,000 in the one year ending in April, 2015.

However, Renault sales in Iran in April were halved compared to March, when the company sold some 6,000 cars.

Over the first four months of this year, the company sold 18,090 cars in Iran, with a rise of 478 percent year on year.

Renault used to sell 10,000 cars in the Iranian market every month up to 2013 when sanctions were imposed on the Islamic Republic, causing a downsize to 3,000 cars per month.
