Cargo transportation through TRACECA’s Azerbaijani segment drops

TRACECA (Transport Corridor Europe-Caucasus-Asia) transported 19.81 million tons of cargo through Azerbaijan’s territory in January-May 2015 or by 10.8 percent less than in the same period of 2015, said a report issued by Azerbaijan’s State Statistics Committee.

Some 63.8 percent (12.65 million tons) of the total volume of transported cargo accounted for vehicles, 27 percent (5.35 million tons) - railway and 9.2 percent (1.81 million tons) – ships, said the report.

According to the report, some 14.6 percent (2.89 million tons) accounted for transit cargo.

TRACECA is an international cooperation program in the field of transport between the EU and partner countries in Eastern Europe, South Caucasus and Central Asia. The organization has a permanent secretariat in Baku.

TRACECA member states are Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, Moldova, Romania, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, and Iran.
