By Azad Hasanli – Trend:

Construction of the Azerbaijani-Iranian car manufacturing plant will be completed in the beginning of 2018, Emin Akhundov, founder of Azermash company, told Trend Nov. 6.

The plant is being built in the Neftchala Industrial District on the basis of an agreement signed between Iran’s Iran Khodro and Azerbaijan’s AzEuroCar LLC.

It was previously expected that the plant will be commissioned in December 2017.

Akhundov did not specify the reasons for the delay, however, a source familiar with the situation told Trend, the construction of the plant lags behind schedule because the Iranian side is unable to deliver the necessary equipment to Azerbaijan in time.

It is expected that the joint Azerbaijani-Iranian car plant will produce cars of such brands as Dena, Rana, Soren and Samand, as well as several Peugeot models.

The project’s cost is estimated at 24 million manats. The plant will produce about 10,000 cars per year. The cars are planned to be delivered to Ukraine, Russia and Central Asia in the future.
