On December 20, the international Chinese land port of Urumqi hosted a solemn ceremony of sending a freight train with food to Holland.
The train will pass through the Kazakh Khorgos station, and further through Russia, Poland and other EU countries, Kazakh media outlets reported.
This is not the first freight train from China to the EU. Since the beginning of the year, 667 trains have been sent from the Chinese XUAR (Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region) to Europe, and China intends to expand this figure to 700 trains.
Total time of goods delivery will take 14 days. The previous dispatch of Chinese goods from Chengdu city by sea took 60 days.
The head of the office of the international land port of Urumqi, Liu Shaohua, noted that with the opening of a new logistical railway route through Kazakhstan, many of the Chinese commodity producers start to expand production in Xinjiang.
Shaohua stated that chemical fertilizers from Urumqi to the Sorokovaya station in Astana are delivered in seven days (via Dostyk station). At the same time, the Chinese side is ready to increase the volume of goods transportation via railway to Kazakhstan and then to other countries.
