In 2017, Kazakh ore mining KAZ Minerals company produced 259,000 tons of copper, which is 80 percent more than the same period of 2016 (144,000 tons) with the planned annual range of 250,000-270,000 tons, a source in KAZ Minerals told Trend.

The company’s mining factories produced 179,000 ounces.

"Production growth in 2017 was achieved due to the beginning of the production of copper from sulphide ore at the Aktogay mining and processing plant (MPP). Over the year, the Aktogay MPP produced 90,000 tons of copper (in 2016 production volume was 18,000 tons), and the Bozshakol MPP produced 101,000 tons of copper (in 2016, production volume was 48,000 tons), the source added.

In the fourth quarter of 2017, KAZ Minerals produced 65,000 tons of copper, which is 10,000 less than in the third quarter. This was due to planned maintenance at the Bozshakol concentrator and the lowered copper content in Aktogay MPP’s production.

Total volume of ore production in 2017 increased by 32 percent, to 64.8 million tons (in 2016, production volume amounted to 49 million tons).
