The construction of a polypropylene plant has been completed by 97.2 percent within SOCAR Polymer project in Azerbaijan’s Sumgait city, head of SOCAR Polymer company’s planning department Vugar Aslanov said.

Aslanov made the remarks at the conference on expansion of production of import-substituting products in industry by using local raw materials in Baku Feb. 6.

He added that work is planned to be completed in the second quarter of 2018.

"We have fully completed the work on procurement and contracts with contractors,” he said. “The detailed engineering work has been completed by 99.9 percent, production and delivery - by 99.6 percent, while construction work - by 93.4 percent. We intend to launch test work in April, while production will begin in June 2018."

“This year 70,000-71,000 tons of polyethylene are planned to be produced at the plant,” he said. “The plant will reach the full production capacity of 180,000 tons next year.”

Touching upon the process of the construction of the second plant for the production of high-density polyethylene, Aslanov said that the project was implemented at 87.7 percent.

"All additional operations have been almost completed here, while the construction work has been completed by 70.3 percent,” he said. “The plant is planned to be commissioned in the third quarter of this year, or, more precisely, in September. This year 20,000-24,000 tons of polyethylene are planned to be produced this year.”

Aslanov added that both plants are planned to be shutdown in October for six weeks.

"This is connected with the planned shutdown at Azerkimya Production Union’s ethylene-polyethylene plant, which is a supplier of raw materials for our plants," he said. “The work will resume on November 15."
