Caspian facilities of Kazakhstan increase cargo shipment

The Caspian facilities of Kazakhstan processed over 5,5 million tons of cargo in 2017, said First Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Askar Mamin.

He noted that in 2018, shipment volume is to exceed 10 million tons.

Mamin, who familiarized with Aktau Sea Port Special Economic Zone development in Mangistau, said that with slowdown of crude transportation the work on diversification of the cargo base continued and the share of general cargo was increased to 80 percent of the total shipment in 2017 compared to 60 percent in 2016.

"The share of shipment of dry and ferried cargo will remain 80 percent, and will reach 16,7 million tons till 2020. The volume of conveyer cargo via ports in 2018 will be around 35,000 TEU, and in 2020 - 300, TEU. In 2017 there were shipped 1,5 million tons of different sorts of cargo across Kuryk. In 2018 this figure will make 4,5 million tons," he noted.

Mamin emphasized that the Caspian logistical facilities are an important link of the Transcaspian corridor, adding that the volume of ferry shipment is expected to increase threefold in 2018.

Presently, the Kazakh fleet has more than 300 vessels, of which 12 vessels make international voyages.

The volume of cargo transportation between Kazakhstan and other countries amounted to 8.8 million tonnes in 2017. This indicator rose by 4 percent up to 355,500 tonnes compared to 2016.

The share of Kazakh carriers increased by 6 percent amounting to 52 percent.
