Modernization of the railway connecting the province of Samsun located in northern Turkey with the province of Sivas located in the center of the country, will be completed at the end of this year, Turkey’s Ministry of Transport, Maritime and Communications told Trend Feb. 27.
The ministry said that the modernization process of the railway started in 2015.
“The project’s cost is 258.8 million euros. Turkey allocated 38.8 million euros for the modernization of the Samsun-Sivas railway, and remaining 220 million euros will be allocated by the European Union,” said the ministry.
The railway’s length is 378 kilometers, according to the ministry.
“As part of the modernization of Samsun-Sivas railway, 48 historical bridges are being restored and 38 new bridges are being built along the railway,” added the ministry.
The Samsun-Sivas railway was built in 1932.
Previously, it was reported that investments worth 10.8 billion Turkish liras will be put in the development of railway infrastructure of Turkey in 2018.
Currently, work is underway on implementation of 50 transport and communication projects in Turkey.
