Ashgabat, Seoul mull new transport and logistics projects

One of the priority vectors for the development of the Turkmenistan-South Korea relations in the near future is cooperation in the transport sector, the Turkmen Foreign Ministry said in a message.

The new proposals were discussed during a joint workshop dedicated to transport, logistics and infrastructure in Ashgabat.

The Turkmen Motor Transport Ministry with the assistance of the embassy of the Republic of Korea in the country, has organized the event.

Among the participants of the workshop are representatives of such companies as Taewoong Logistics, Pantos Logistics, KJ International, Evergreen Motors, Hyundai, LG, DAEWOO, SK Holding.

Employees of the Motor Transport Ministry, Railway Transport Ministry, Ministry of Communications, Ministry of Construction and Architecture, Ministry of Finance and Economy, State Customs Service, State Service of Maritime and River Transport and others were invited to the hearings from the Turkmen side.

The implementation of mutually beneficial projects in this sphere will become a powerful impetus to the further integration of the regional countries into the processes of global economic development, facilitate the inflow of investments and effective cooperation in the interests of the countries and peoples of the continent.

Special attention in the region is paid to the development of transit and logistics infrastructure along the East-West and North-South corridors with the access to European and Middle Eastern markets.

The Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran railway and Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Tajikistan railway, automobile and railway bridges across the Amu Darya river, airports in Ashgabat and in the regions, highways, Turkmenbashi international seaport are designed to become important links in the network of transport communications.

All these measures are designed to promote the active integration of the domestic transport system into the international communication infrastructure, the creation of big logistics centers in Turkmenistan.

According to the Turkmen side, the trade turnover between Turkmenistan and South Korea has recently increased from $200 million to almost $2 billion.
