The Azerbaijan Beekeepers Association is working to establish the honey processing and packaging enterprise in the country, Chairman of the Association Badraddin Hasratov told Trend May 30.

He said that this enterprise is being created by the association itself in the country’s Gakh district.

"The work is currently underway,” he said. “We hope that the enterprise will be able to launch its activity till the end of August," Hasratov said.

“Moreover, two more honey packaging enterprises are planned to be created within the second project to support beekeeping in Azerbaijan, which will be implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO),” Hasratov added.

"FAO experts have already visited Azerbaijan and carried out the necessary calculations and analysis,” Hasratov said. “The meetings were held in Ganja, Astara cities and Gakh district. Most likely the project will be implemented next year. It will allow us to continue to improve the bee gene pool and begin to improve the packaging process. In this regard, honey packaging enterprises will be established in Ganja and Astara."

The implementation of new project is planned to be launched in 2018, Head of the FAO Partnership and Liaison Office in Azerbaijan Melek Cakmak told Trend earlier.

The initial cost of the project is estimated at $800,000. The issues related to packaging and international certification of Azerbaijani honey are planned to be resolved within the project.
