Azerbaijan is eager to increase honey exports in 2018, Head of the Azerbaijan Beekeepers Association Badraddin Hasratov told Trend May 31.

He noted that the planned increase in honey production in the country allows not only to fully meet domestic demand, but also allows to expand exports.

"This year we are planning to bring honey production up to 5,000 tons. That is why, we seriously think about expanding geography and export volumes. Presently, we are negotiating with Saudi Arabia, to where we sent test specimens. China is also showing great interest in Azerbaijani honey. A trial batch of honey was also sent there, after which we started preliminary negotiations. There are plans to export honey to Dubai, "Khasratov said.

He added that in 2018 it is planned to increase the export of honey to Japan.

"Six tons of honey were exported to Japan in 2017, and eight tons are planned to be delivered in 2018. Furthermore, another Japanese company expressed a desire to import Azerbaijani honey. Presently, we continue negotiations, so honey exports to Japan will increase, "he said.
