Turkmenistan starts harvesting wheat

Wheat harvest has started in the Akhal, Lebap and Mary provinces (regions) of Turkmenistan, the country's Ministry of Agriculture announced June 6.

The harvesting campaign In the Balkan and Dashoguz provinces will begin on June 13 due to climatic features.

Information about the readiness of the regions to start harvesting winter wheat was conveyed at the last special meeting of the government. President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that all measures should be taken to carry out the harvest in a short time and without losses, focusing on ensuring the smooth operation of grain reception points.

Turkmenistan plans to collect 1.6 million tons of grain from 760,000 hectares of land in 2018, including 450,000 tons in Akhal province, 380,000 tons in Mary, 350,000 tons in Lebap, 300,000 tons in Dashoguz, and 120,000 tons in the Balkan.

The harvesting campaign will involve grain harvesting equipment manufactured by John Deere and CLAAS companies.

In July 2017, it was reported that the country harvested about one million tons of wheat. Turkmenistan has previously received a special award by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations for achievements in the field of food security.
