Lead extraction, export increase in Kazakhstan

Extraction of lead in lead concentrate in Kazakhstan for first two months of 2018 amounted to 15,000 tons, 8.7 percent more than in 2017, Energyprom.kz said in a message.

The extraction of lead concentrate increased by 18.7 percent to 57,100 tons.

Kazzinc, a subsidiary of the Swiss concern Glencore International, as well as Nova Zinc LLP, a subsidiary of Chelyabinsk Zinc Plant, are engaged in extraction of lead in ore and concentrates in Kazakhstan.

The bulk of production falls on the East Kazakhstan Province, where Kazzinc operates.

In 2017, Kazakhstan exported 126,100 tons of raw lead, which is 1 percent more than in 2016.

In January 2018, the export of raw lead amounted to 7,500 tons, 74 percent more than a year earlier.

In terms of money, export value reached $18.1 million, almost twice as much a year earlier.

The main importers of Kazakh lead are Vietnam and Spain.
