Uzbekistan and the Nizhny Novgorod region of Russia are interested in cooperation in agriculture and education, Uzbek media reported on Oct. 2 referring to the Acting Deputy Governor, Deputy Chairman of the Government of Nizhny Novgorod Igor Nosov.

Nosov made the statement on the eve of the visit of the delegation from Uzbekistan on Oct. 2. The main goal of the visit is to discuss further cooperation in education, auto industry and agriculture.

Today, Uzbekistan holds the 30th place among 124 foreign trade partners of the Nizhny Novgorod region. In January-June 2018, the trade turnover of the Nizhny Novgorod region with Uzbekistan amounted to $26.5 million, which is 24 percent higher than the same period in 2017.

"The Nizhny Novgorod region is one of the largest players in the automotive industry in Russia, and Uzbekistan is the center of the automobile industry in Central Asia. Very large potential for cooperation exists in agriculture and education. About 200 students from Uzbekistan are currently in universities of Nizhny Novgorod," Nosov said.

In turn, deputy head of the administration of the Kashkadarya region Oybek Shagazatov underlined that today's meeting opens additional opportunities for expanding cooperation.

"We have a huge untapped potential in various sectors of the economy and industry. We plan to discuss certain projects within our cooperation," Shagazatov said.

Russia is one of the leading trade and economic partners of Uzbekistan. The Central Asian state employs over 960 enterprises with participation of Russian capital and, according to experts of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan, their number will exceed 1,000 before the end of the year. Uzbekistan itself is also active in Russia, and it has already opened over 560 enterprises.
