Iranian free trade zone, Azerbaijan's Nakhchivan expanding relations

Creation of conditions for development of economic, tourism and cultural relations between Iran’s Maku Free Trade Zone and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan is on the agenda of Iran’s Consulate, IRNA quoted Mansur Ayrom, Consul General of Iran in Nakhchivan, as saying at a meeting with the managing director of Maku Free Trade and Industrial Zone Organization.

He noted that the zone has created favorable conditions for expansion of economic activities of businessmen from Nakhchivan. The simplification of border crossing procedures for Iranian citizens and Nakhchivan residents can give impetus to economic development of the zone.

Ayrom added that extension of working hours at the Poldasht customs control and border crossing point, arrangement of joint monthly meetings of customs officials are considered as the steps to be taken for development of economic relations between the parties.

"The establishment of an agricultural and pharmaceutical export agency, the arrangement of trade meetings with participation of officials and businessmen from the two parties, the establishment of relations between the most active representatives of the private sector are the steps taken by the Consulate General of Iran," Ayrom said.

Ayrom noted that joint festivals, the use of culture and fine arts potentials of the two parties are of great significance.

The specific potential of this zone has allowed creating very favorable opportunities for foreign investors, Gholam Reza Soleimani, Managing Director of Maku Free Trade and Industrial Zone Organization, said in his turn at the meeting.

Simplification measures have been envisaged in order to speed up the investment-making in the zone, he added.

The investors can get their companies registered within a few hours, he concluded.
