The first stage in the construction of Canakkale 1915 Bridge, one of Turkeys mega projects, has been completed, the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of Turkey told Trend Nov. 26.
The ministry noted that the Canakkale 1915 Bridge will have six lanes.
"The width of the bridge will be 45 meters. Ten above-ground passages and 43 underground ones will be built as well," the ministry said.
It was earlier noted that the Canakkale 1915 Bridge will be put into operation on March 18, 2020.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had changed the date of commissioning of the Canakkale-1915 suspension bridge, which had been scheduled for 2023.
The construction of the Canakkale-1915 bridge, which will be the longest suspension bridge in the world, began in March 2017.
The bridge will not only connect Gelibolu Peninsula with Lapseki area, but will also reduce the time of cargo transportation from Europe to Aegean and Western Mediterranean regions of Turkey, bypassing Istanbul.
