Official talks latest on Iran-Azerbaijan railway

Iran tries to run container trains from China, with the transition from East Asian countries to the Islamic Republic, and allow them to travel to Turkey, the Head of International Organizations Unit at the Railways of Islamic Republic of Iran (RAI) said, IRNA reported.

According to her, since 2015, eight container trains have been move on this path.

“The agreements between the railways of Iran, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Ukraine and Poland to launch the South-West corridor are reached for attracting loads from India and the countries of Southeast Asia to Europe,” said Mojgan Kordbacheh at the 22nd meeting of the UIC (International Union of Railways) Regional Assembly for the Middle-East (RAME) in Isfahan.

"The agreements on tariffs and the duration of the trips of these trains have been agreed upon,” she added.

Referring to the South-North Corridor she said that to develop the western route of the north-south corridor, agreements have been reached with the countries of Azerbaijan, Russia and Belarus, and this corridor has been activated.

“Since a few years ago, negotiations have started between Iran and the countries of Central Asia to transfer the goods of these countries from the Sarakhs to the Razi station and from there to Turkey,” she said.

"Currently, goods are transported through the Iranian rail network to the Turkey's Van province and we consider to continue the transportation of these goods through rail to other cities of Turkey and then to Europe,” she added.

Referring to the Qazvin-Rasht railway which opened in test regime on Thursday, she said that the plan is to officially open it in January.
