Loading capacity of railway sector in northwestern Iran increases

During the nine months of this Iranian year (started March 21, 2018), cargo loading capacity of the railway sector in northwestern Iran increased by 301 percent compared to the same period last year, Ali Khodaei, director general of the Iran Railways for northwestern region, said in an interview with IRNA.

He said the Binab freight station between the provinces of Zanjan and Qazvin, being a part of the international freight stations in the northwestern zone, implements international imports and exports by rail.

He added that detergents, corn, oil seeds, zinc, wood, cement, clinker, wheat, household items and ceramics were mainly transported via the freight station.

This cargo is imported and exported from Turkey, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Tajikistan, he said.

In the last nine months, 1.374 million tons of goods were loaded and 1.169 million tons of goods were unloaded, said Khodaei.
