Sales of real estate to foreigners increase by over 80% in Turkey

Some 72,900 real estate properties were sold in Turkey in January 2019, which is 24.8 percent less than in January 2018, Trend reports referring to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK).

During the period, 13,400 real estate properties were sold in Istanbul, 6,700 properties in Ankara, and 3,700 properties in Izmir, according to the TUIK.

"The remaining 49,100 real estate properties fall to the share of other cities," the TUIK said.

In January 2019, 3,100 real estate properties were sold to foreigners in Turkey, which is 81.9 percent more than in January 2018.

In January 2019, Iraqi citizens acquired 605 real estate properties in Turkey, Iranian citizens purchased 305 properties, while citizens of Russia, Afghanistan and Jordan and purchased 195, 191 and 151 properties, respectively.

"The remaining 1,653 real estate properties fall to the share of citizens of other countries," the TUIK said.
