Presently, the issue of launching international flights from the airport in Turkmenabat city (the administrative center of Turkmenistan’s Lebap region) to China, Turkey and other countries is being considered, Trend reports referring to Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper.
A new airport with a capacity of 500 passengers per hour and the ability to receive any type of aircraft, including Airbus A380 and cargo aircraft AN-225 (Mriya) opened in this city in 2018.
In 2018, it was planned to transfer 213,000 passengers from the airport and in fact, this figure exceeded more than a quarter of a million passengers.
The plan for the transportation of mail and cargo was fulfilled by 175 percent. Presently, flights are operated from the Turkmenabat airport to Ashgabat, Turkmenbashi, Dashoguz cities.
