By Rashid Shirinov – Trend:

This year, the sown area in the North Kazakhstan region will reach 4.3 million hectares, Trend reports via Kazakh media.

Head of the region's Agriculture Department Yerbolat Bekshenov said that cereals and pulses will take 2.8 million hectares, oilseeds - 1 million hectare, fodder - 369,500 hectares, potatoes - 37,400 hectares, and vegetables - 6,600 hectares. Compared to last year, sown area of oilseeds will increase, while the sown area of cereals, potatoes and vegetables will remain at the same level.

«Недавно была информация, что мы увеличили площади картофеля, и цена снизилась на него якобы из-за Северо-Казахстанской области. Если это так, то мы, наверное, на правильном пути.

"Recently, there was information that we increased the sown area of potatoes and consequently, the price on it has dropped, reportedly because of North Kazakhstan region. If so, we are probably on the right track. If we kept the prices by increasing the sown area of potatoes, this is the most important thing," said the region's governor Kumar Aksakalov.

"We will maintain the acreage. If necessary, we will increase it", the governor added.

Aksakalov also noted that the region has necessary conditions for the storage of grown vegetables. For example, last year vegetable storehouses were opened in Petropavl and the Taiynsha district.
