Uzbekistan is studying the possibility of developing shale gas and oil, Trend reports with reference to the head of Uzbekneftegaz department Nodir Mukhitdinov.
"This issue is under study. The special conditions are necessary for the extraction of shale oil and gas. Moreover, the rock itself has to have special conditions that are its geological properties. Currently, we are studying the territory of Bukhara-Khiva region in this direction. We have carbonate deposits of the Khodzhaipak Formation, which may be promising in the extraction of shale oil and gas," he said.
At the same time, a representative of Uzbekneftegaz added that so far the company is at the stage of preliminary study.
"We are currently studying this issue, but right now we can’t say that we will be mining soon, this is not yet possible," he stressed.
