“The volume of cargo traffic on the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route is to triple in the following five or ten years,” said Akhmed Mustafin, Director on Aktau port commercial questions, Trend reports referring to Casp-Geo.

He made the statement during the 1st Caspian Ports and Shipping 2019 Exhibition and Conference in Aktau, Kazakhstan.

“Kazakhstan has already taken steps to increase the capacity of the port. The construction of the new Kuryk port has been finished last year. This will allow to decrease the shipping time to Alat port; moreover, the loading of cargo will not longer depend on the weather conditions,” he said.

Speaking at the conference, Taleh Ziyadov, Director General of Baku International Sea Trade Port CJSC, stated that the number of ports joining the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route could increase soon.

“In addition to Aktau and Kury, other Kazakh ports also plan to join the initiative. Furthermore, we are considering an opportunity to another Turkish port apart from Samsunport. Currently, the information concerning the ports is not provided,” he said.
