With the necessary infrastructure created, the export value of Iran's medicinal plants will reach $1 billion within the next 3 years, Hossein Zeynali, medical plants project manager of Iran's Ministry of Agriculture, told ILNA, Trend reports.
According to Zeynali, various medicinal plants worth more than $570 million were exported last Iranian year (started March 21, 2018).
Zeynali added that saffron, Damascus rose, liquorice and coriander were exported the most.
The ministry official said that $180 million worth of medicinal plants had been imported last year.
"Ginger, cinnamon, cardamom and nigella (love-in-a-mist) are among the main products imported," he said.
Zeynali said that efforts are being made to produce these products domestically, so as to make the import of these products unnecessary.
