In the next five years, Uzbekistan will focus on the production of cheap cars at a price of about $10,000 and mini-crossovers, the price of which will be about $15,000, Trend reports with reference to nuz.uz.
At a briefing on the strategy for development of automotive industry in Uzbekistan held in the Agency of Information and Mass Communications for the industry officials, the participants were informed about the Concept for the development of the automotive industry in Uzbekistan till 2030.
“The concept will soon be published on the Internet portal for review and discussion,” said Rustam Kadirov, Head of Strategic Planning Directorate of Uzavtosanoat JSC. "The document covers two promising areas. First, in the next five years, the focus will be on the production of cheap cars at a price of about $10,000. We forecast high demand for them."
"In addition, the world experience shows that crossovers and off-road vehicles become more popular from year to year. Based on this, the second direction is production of mini-crossovers, the price of which will be about $15,000,” he added.
According to officials of Uzavtosanoat, by the end of this year, it is planned to start production of cars of the premium segment: the Chevrolet Equinox crossover, Chevrolet Trailblazer and Chevrolet Traverse family crossover. The output will depend only on the market demand, as the number of people who are able to afford such cars is small. Currently, production of cars of a premium class does not reach even 10 percent of the total volume of the production by the carmaker.
