Prices for bread and bakery products in Georgia may rise due to the depreciation of lari, said Head of the Association of Bakery Producers of Georgia Levan Silagava, Trend reports with reference to 1tv.ge.
However, according to him, a sharp rise in price is not expected.
“It will probably be an increase by two dollars in the cost of one bag of flour. Currently, the price of one bag of flour is 49-50 lari. The lari continues to depreciate, and, since we import wheat for production, this will affect prices,” said Levan Silagava.
Meanwhile, he noted, there is a certain amount of supplies including a small crop of local wheat, in the country.
“We hope that in the near future the lari will stabilize, so we will not have to raise prices. However, at the moment they entirely depend on the course of the lari,” said Levan Silagava.
