A National Government Committee on International Trade has been created in Georgia according to a government decree, Trend reports citing the Ministry of Finance of Georgia.

The goal of the National Committee is to coordinate the implementation of the requirements of the World Trade Organization (WTO), including the movement of goods across the border in order to support a flexible, modernized system of international trade.

The first meeting of the National Committee on International Trade was held at the Ministry of Finance of Georgia on Aug 16. The committee, chaired by the Deputy Minister of Finance of Georgia Lasha Khutsishvili, is a permanent inter-agency advisory body.

“The committee includes representatives from both the private sector and government agencies. In the course of its work, the Committee will develop recommendations and submit them to the Government of Georgia for consideration in order to maximize effectiveness of the rules of international trade,” said Deputy Minister of Finance Lasha Khutsishvili.

The meeting participants discussed the obligations stipulated by the Trade Facilitation Agreement, the state of their implementation, new customs legislation and the introduction of the institution of an authorized economic operator.
