Uzbekistan needs to invest $ 4.5 billion to bring water supply indicator to 98 percent in cities and to 85 percent in villages, Trend reports citing the press service of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
On September 5, the head of state discussed the water supply issues at a meeting with relevant authorities.
The level of centralized provision of clean drinking water in the country is 68 percent, in Karakalpakstan region - 52 percent, in Bukhara region - 53 percent, in Kashkadarya and Surkhandarya - 54 percent, and in Khorezm region - 56 percent.
At the meeting, it was noted that the profitability of water supply enterprises in Tashkent is 7 percent, in Andijan and Kashkadarya regions - 6 percent, and in Navoi - 3 percent.
There are 27,000 kilometers or 38 percent of disrepair water supply networks; 2,000 or 20 percent of pumps are out of order.
The head of state pointed out the need for urgent acceleration of work to solve these and similar problems.
