Sugar price in Uzbekistan has reached its maximum of 7,000 soums ($ 0.74) per kilogram, due to cancellation of VAT privileges in Uzbekistan in Oct.1, 2019, Trend reports citing Uzbekistan’s State Statistics Committee.

The change in sugar prices was revealed in July. Meanwhile, in March Russia was asking for a quota for deliveries of 200,000 tons of sugar to Uzbekistan annually.

Uzbekistan's Minister of Agriculture and Water Resources Zhamshid Khodjaev, said that in 2018, Russian companies supplied about 700,000 tons of sugar to Uzbekistan.

According to official statistics, the annual demand for sugar in Uzbekistan is about 700,000 tons.

In 1998, Uzbekistan's foreign enterprise Khorezm-Shakar JSC (Khorezm Sugar Plant) built the first sugar factory in the country with a capacity of 1,000 tons of raw cane sugar per day. At the end of 2014 IP Angren Shakar LLC put into operation a sugar factory in Tashkent region with a similar capacity.

It was planned that these two enterprises should practically cover the needs of the domestic market. However, due to the high cost of supplies of reed raw materials, in recent years, plants have not been operating at full capacity.

($1- 9412.65 soums on Oct. 10)
