Iran's auto part industry can produce auto parts domestically, if the necessary conditions are created, said a member of Iran Auto Parts Manufacturers Association Ebrahim Ahmadi told Trend.

"If the infrastructures are prepared, there is a possibility to produce domestically a large number of auto parts, from electronic parts to engine parts, that are currently being imported," he said.

"The investors expect to preserve security of their investment. One of the ways to achieve this goal is transparency and the Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade can provide information about setting auto part price," he added.

"Iran used to produce auto parts for Renault, Peugeot and Citroen and export them to world automakers before the US sanctions. If the suitable conditions are created and basic materials are provided at an appropriate rates to auto part makers, then investment in this sector will be profitable," Ahmadi said

"Although the auto industry has heavy costs and needs high amount of investment, reaching self-sufficiency in the field of auto part making is not farfetched," Ahmadi noted.

Iran's Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade Reza Rahmani believes that increasing domestic production of auto parts will lead to auto price cut; however, experts in this field say that upgrade of production line and purchase of new equipment are necessary to achieve this goal.
