The US position regarding the Anaklia deep sea port project remains unchanged, and the US government considers the project to be of great important, said acting US Ambassador to Georgia Elizabeth Rood, Trend reports citing Georgian media outlets.
Rood emphasized the importance of the project and the need to build the the deep sea port in Anaklia.
"US would be happy, if the Anaklia port project is implemented via the US investment", the acting ambassador said.
Anaklia deep sea port will be the first Georgian container port with a deep water, state-of-the-art infrastructure and equipment. These factors will ensure the port productivity, efficiency and reliability along with a superior customer service.
Set to open in 2020, Anaklia deep sea port is to built over the course of nine phases, with an aggregate investment of $2.5 billion. Anaklia port’s depth will be 16 meters which enables to berth vessels up to 10,000 TEUs in capacity.
