Construction of transit highway nearing completion in Iran

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Nov. 14

The remaining 10 kilometers of Urmia-Nazlu-Sarv highway transit route, located in Iran's West Azerbaijan province, will be put into operation by the end of current Iranian year (March 21, 2020), Director General of West Azerbaijan Road and Urban Planning Department Mohsen Hamzalu said, Trend reports citing IRNA.

The total length of the highway is 55 kilometers, Hamzalu said, adding that the cost of the project is estimated at 20 billion rials (roughly $476,000).

The director general noted that increasing Iran-Turkey trade, attracting tourism and reducing traffic accidents are main goals of the project.

This highway will contribute to increasing transit of goods via Iran and merge Tehran-Tabriz highway and customs of Sarv in West Azerbaijan, Hamzalu said.

The construction of Urmia-Nazlu-Sarv highway started in 2000.

The total length of roads in Iran's West Azerbaijan province reaches 12,000 kilometers.
