Uzbekistan exports over 1 million tons of fruits, vegetables

From January through October 2019, the volume of export of fruits and vegetables in physical terms amounted to over 1.1 million tons and over $1 billion in value terms (growth rates, compared to the same period last year, amounted to 113.4 percent and 142.2 percent respectively), Trend reports citing Uzbekistan’s State Statistics Committee.

Of these, over 667,200 tons of vegetables were exported in the amount of $476.2 million, alongside 492,500 tons of fruits and berries in the amount of $575.7 million (growth rate in value terms, compared with the same period last year, respectively, amounted to 183.6 percent and 119.8 percent).

From January through October 2019, the share of fruits and vegetables in the total export amounted to 7.1 percent, the committee said.

According to official statistics, Kyrgyzstan accounts for 28.8 percent of the export of fruits and vegetables from Uzbekistan (in value terms) for the ten months of this year. From January through October 2019, 109,400 tons of fruits and vegetables worth $303 million were shipped to the neighboring country.

The share of Kazakhstan amounted to 23.7 percent in value terms of Uzbekistan’s export of vegetables, fruits and berries. According to the statistics, from January through October this year, 473,100 tons of fruit and vegetable products worth $249.2 million were shipped to Kazakhstani consumers.

Over the ten months of this year, 214,900 tons of fruits and vegetables for $136.8 million were shipped to Russia (13 percent of Uzbekistan’s exports).

In total, these countries accounted for 68.7 percent of the export of vegetables, fruits and berries in physical terms and 64 percent in value terms.

From January through October 2019, the total export volume of Uzbekistan amounted to $14.8 billion and increased by 43.3 percent compared to the same period last year.

The share of exported goods amounted to 80.8 percent, of which energy carriers and oil products were 16.6 percent, textiles and textile products - 8.9 percent, food products - 8.7 percent, non-ferrous metals and products from them - 5.3 percent and chemical products and products from it - 5 percent.

Compared with last year, the main partners of Uzbekistan in the export of goods and services in foreign trade from January through October 2019 were China (16.8 percent of total exports), Russia (13.4 percent), Kazakhstan (8.5 percent), Turkey (6.6 percent), Kyrgyzstan (3.9 percent), Afghanistan (3.3 percent) and Tajikistan (1.8 percent).
