Uzbekistan determines reserve volume of main types of agricultural products

Uzbekistan approved the reserves of main agricultural goods (potatoes, onions, carrots and rice) for the winter-spring 2019-2020 season, Trend reports citing Uzbekistan’s National Legislation Base - Lex.uz portal.

The government decree "On measures to guarantee the provision of Uzbekistan’s population and social institutions with the main types of agricultural products in the winter-spring period of 2019-2020" provides that the total volume of these products in the country amounted to 414,399 tons.

The document provides that direct contracting agreements will be concluded between its producers, preparatory organizations and social institutions as an exception, for the accumulation of stocks of the main types of agricultural products.

The schedule for the delivery of products to the domestic consumer market will be developed by January 1. Products will be evenly distributed across all regions, including mountainous and hard-to-reach areas.

Food production in Uzbekistan is projected to increase by 2.3 times by 2030, as stated in the Concept of Uzbekistan’s comprehensive socio-economic development until 2030.

Uzbekistan’s Uzbekozikovkat holding company of the food industry announced the following figures for the needs of the population in a number of important food products: Uzbekistan's annual demand for sugar is 633,000 tons (local production – 464,700 tons), and butter – 264,300 tons (local production – 12,000 tons), in confectionery products – 195,800 tons (local production – 69,600 tons), in cheese- 124,000 tons (local production 12,500 tons).

According to official estimates, currently the share of the food industry in Uzbekistan’s industrial production is 11.5 percent. As of January 1, 2019, over 12,900 enterprises of various forms of ownership are operating in the food industry, including 109 large ones.
