Germany to support Kazakhstan in low-carbon economy strategy dev't

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Dec. 6

Kazakhstan and Germany agreed to cooperate on the issue of developing the low-carbon economy strategy, Trend reports with reference to the press office of Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources.

The corresponding declaration of intent on cooperation in area of green economy and development of long-term low-carbon economic strategy was signed on December 5, between the ministry and German’s Federal Ministry of the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety.

The signing took place during two-day official visit of Kazakhstan’s President Kassym Jomart Tokayev to Germany.

Furthermore, Kazakhstan’s Minister of Ecology, Geology and Natural Resources Magzum Mirzagaliyev met with Germany’s State Secretary at the Ministry for Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety Jochen Flasbarth.

Within the framework of the meeting, issues of climate change were discussed, and Mirzagaliyev in particular noted that one of the current goals of the ministry is to provide Kazakhstan’s transition to low-carbon development and ‘green economy’ for the implementation of which the Low-Carbon Development Strategy of Kazakhstan till 2050 is being developed.

Mirzagaliyev noted the positive work experience in implementation of the joint geological project with Germany in Kazakhstan, and invited German companies to invest in mining and exploration sector of economy.

Furthermore, Mirzagaliyev expressed interest in acquiring best German practices regarding national nature parks management, having stated that there is a number of nature parks in Kazakhstan where biodiversity of species is widely represented.
