Governor: Exports of Iran's Gilan province may reach $500M a year

Exports of Iran's Gilan province, located in the country's north, may reach $500 million a year, Governor of Gilan province Arsalan Zare said at a meeting on the development of non-oil exports, Trend reports with reference to the website of the Gilan Governorate.

The governor noted that serious steps should be taken in agriculture, industry and manufacturing to develop non-oil exports.

In the first eight months (from March 21 to Nov. 21, 2019) of the current Iranian year, the province exported 468,000 tons of non-oil products worth $260 million, Arsalan Zare said, adding that these goods were mainly exported to Azerbaijan, Russia, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Iraq and Central Asia.

Moreover, 10,800 tons of goods worth $43.3 million were exported by suitcase traders, the governor said, adding that this type of exports has significantly increased compared to the same period of last year.

The governor also noted that a flower and vegetable export terminal has been built in Gilan's Astara county.
