BAKU, Azerbaijan, Dec. 13
By Fakhri Vakilov - Trend:
The share of cotton in the export of agricultural products in Uzbekistan decreased from 11.3 percent in 2010 to 1.6 percent by 2018, as stated in the decree of Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, Trend reports citing Uzbek media.
In recent years, consistent measures have been taken to reform agriculture and introduce market mechanisms into the industry.
In particular, a cluster method of production has been established in agriculture; area of agricultural land allotted to clusters for crops is 67 percent in the cotton and textile industry, 8 percent for livestock, and 7.5 percent for horticulture.
Today, more than 80 types of agricultural products produced in Uzbekistan are exported to 66 countries.
Moreover, it is emphasized that the absence in the industry of a systematic organization of effective market mechanisms, especially in the development of horticulture and viticulture, as well as its insufficient scientific approach lead to the underutilization of the industry’s capabilities, the resolution says.
Calculations show that in relation to raw cotton grown on 1 hectare of land, grapes make it possible to obtain 7-fold, sweet cherry - 6-fold, walnut - 5-fold profit.
