BAKU, Azerbaijan, Dec. 19

By Elnur Baghishov - Trend:

Iranian fishermen catch some 770,000 tons of different fish in seas, Deputy Chairman in the Ports and Fisheries Department of the Iranian Fishery Organization Parviz Mohebbi Nozar said.

Nozar made the remark at the event on the re-launch of a research vessel in Iran’s northern Gilan province, Trend reports referring to the organization’s website.

“Some 42,000 tons of fish are caught in Iran’s northern provinces, which is six percent of fishing in Iran,” the deputy chairman added.

Some 200,000 tons of different fish were exported last Iranian year (from March 21, 2018 through March 21, 2019).

Nozar said that sprat and sturgeon yield in the Caspian Sea is unsatisfactory and more effective steps must be taken to increase the figures.

The fishing vessel, called the Gilan ship, was put into operation on Dec. 18 after eight years of repair. The length of the ship, which was produced in 1971, is 54 meters.
