1500 hectares be sown at greenhouses in Iran

TEHRAN, Iran, Dec.24

Iranian Acting minister of Agriculture Jihad said that with the aim to reduce water consumption and increase production and commercialization for export, 3,000 to 4,000 hectares of land will be sown at greenhouses annually.

"Currently, the country's greenhouse cultivation area is 17,500 hectares, which will be increased by 1,500 hectares by the end of the Iranian year [March 21, 2020],” Abbas Keshavarz said, Trend reports citing IRNA.

The acting minister made this remark during his visit to Bushehr province on Dec. 23. during the trip, he accompanied First Vice President Isaac Jahangiri.

"Increasing oil and meal production has always been one of the most serious programs in the agricultural sector, so that in the last five years, the rapeseed production has increased from 60,000 to 420,000 tonnes last year," Keshavarz said.

“This year's plan was to cultivate 300,000 hectares of rapeseed; so far, work on 250,000 hectares have been completed,” said the acting minister.

He also noted the need to increase the milk production in the country by cultivating forage with low water requirement.
