Iran's exports via its Mehabad border exceed $7M

The value of Iran's exports via Mahabad customs in its West Azerbaijan province amounted to almost $7.3 million in the first nine months (from March 21 to Dec. 21, 2019) of the current Iranian year, Director of the Mahabad Customs Administration Ahmad Ahmadi said, Trend reports via IRNA.

According to the director, export destinations were mostly neighboring countries, mainly Iraq, Azerbaijan and Turkey.

The bulk of the exports were comprised of factory carpets, dairy products, white cement and poultry feed, Ahmadi said.

In the current year, compared to the same period of the previous year, exports of goods via Mahabad has decreased, the customs official said, adding that presently, only companies and their representatives, who have undertaken obligations to bring foreign currencies into the country.

One of the reasons for the decrease in exports via Mahabad is that the export destinations impose fees on imported goods to boost local production, the director said.

Mahabad county is located in the south of Iran's West Azerbaijan province and has nine customs of the province.

The province shares a total of 960 kilometers of borderline with Iraq, Turkey and Azerbaijan's Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.
