By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

“Produce in Georgia” program has been amended and new priority areas have been identified within the program for 2020, Trend reports citing Georgian media.

As reported, “Produce in Georgia” will be more focused on economic development in the country’s regions.

The emphasis will be placed on small and medium-sized businesses in the regions, as well as on industries such as fishing, ceramics and the development of tourism services and balneological resort areas.

In addition, the priorities of the program will include such areas as the development of export and import-substituting enterprises.

“Produce in Georgia” program was created in the summer of 2014 to stimulate local production and offers two main incentives: financial resources and infrastructure (land, buildings, etc.). In April 2017, the agency of the same name was created, which combined all state programs aimed at promoting the business sector and economic development of the country.

According to Georgian Economy Minister Natia Turnava, ''Produce in Georgia'' is one of the most successful programs in the country as it serves the stimulation of entrepreneurship.

''Since 2014, hundreds of enterprises have started operation, and thousands of jobs have been created within the framework of the program,” Turnava earlier said.

Moreover, Agency Director Mikheil Khidureli has said that 359 enterprises started functioning in 2014 – 2019, and 85 enterprises received sponsorship solely in 2019 within the framework of the program.

The government sponsored 136 hotels in the regions of Georgia as part of the program.

Khidureli also stressed that in 2019, with the support of the agency, about 120 companies took part in 16 international exhibitions.

Moreover, the agency provides training for export managers. It also plans to develop a trade platform Georgia in 2020.
