Top official: Iran needs to move towards knowledge-based economy

TEHRAN, Iran, Feb.14

Trend:

The Chief of Staff of the President of Iran Mahmoud Vaezi said that the government is doing its best to avoid people being pressured by high prices, Trend reports via IRNA.

"The country's economic indicators are improving in the current Iranian year (ends on March 21, 2020) and we are trying to avoid political impulses and external pressure on people,” Mahmoud Vaezi said.

He also pointed to the country's progress in economic and industrial spheres despite sanctions.

"The equipment we need is being manufactured locally and the employment in the country has increased despite the US sanctions," he said.

"This year our economic indicators have improved and I promise the situation will be much better next year," said Vaezi.

The official also pointed out the need for Iran to move towards knowledge-based economy.

“Fortunately, the knowledge-based companies are well established in East Azerbaijan Province and other parts of the country,” he said.
