Iran mulls over resuming activities in various sectors

TEHRAN, Iran, April 2

Trend:

Iran continues to implement social distancing plan while reviewing options for possible resumption of economic activities, said Iran's Interior Minister Rahmani Fazli, Trend reports citing IRNA.

"Resuming activities in various sectors does not mean that coronavirus is fully controlled; disobeying health protocols would intensify the infection, so the social distancing policy will continue until the cure is discovered," the minister added.

"The Health Ministry, the Ministry of Industry, Mine and Trade and other organizations are expected to draft a protocol for restarting activities in various sectors and industries based on the risk assessment of the infection spread," Fazli said.

"In terms of economic activities in public and private sector, there is plan with three priorities for start of the work based on low, average and high risk of the infection," he said referring to the recent meeting of the social committee of the National Headquarters for Fighting Coronavirus.

"The National Headquarters for Fighting Coronavirus shall decide over necessary protocols in terms of public activities in mosques and other places," the minister added.

"The social committee of the National Headquarters for Fighting Coronavirus has also discussed the situation in the education sector as well as conditions to start of ministries' activities that requires proper preparation work," he said.

"The Health Ministry, doctors and nurses control the situation; in the meantime, public awareness of the problem was also raised, so we hope people will follow health protocols," the minister added.

COVID-19 infected cases have reached 50,468 people in Iran as of April 2, and 124 persons have died over past 24 hours.
